What the f*** is GTM Engineer?
And, why is it more popular than your high school crush right now
If you’re new here, welcome to Go-To-Market Engineer newsletter. It’s approximately a 4-minute read.
In today's newsletter, we're going to cover:
What exactly is a GTM Engineer?
Why this role is exploding right now?
How Clay made this mainstream?
Playbook of The Week
Job Change Alert System
Whenever someone leave thier job, then there are potential two buyers for you. Most people forget to leverage even one of them.
The company where the person was working and the company where the person moves to.
You can set up a workflow in Clay to monitor when decision-makers at target companies change roles.
Here’s how:
Create a list of your ICP companies
Use Clay’s “Job Changes” signal to track people changing their jobs
Create two workflows from there, one for their past company and one for the company they move onto
Match correct value prop to both companies
Reach out to 3 different people
The person who changed their job
The person who was overseeing them in theirlast company
The person who will be overseeing them in their new company
I already created this workflow. You can find it here (link)

What is GTM Engineer?
A GTM Engineer is basically a RevOps person who can actually build stuff.
Instead of just managing Salesforce fields, they're architecting entire data pipelines.
Instead of manual lead research, they're building automated enrichment systems.
Instead of basic email sequences, they're creating intelligent workflows that respond to buyer signals.
Why is everyone talking about it now?
Clay's $1.25B valuation proved something we've been saying - GTM is becoming an engineering discipline. Before Clay, you needed actual engineers to build sophisticated GTM systems. Now, revenue operators can build complex automation without code.
Companies like OpenAI and Anthropic aren't just using these tools for lead gen. They're using them to architect their entire GTM infrastructure.
The bottom line: If you're still doing manual prospect research and spray-and-pray outbound, you're already behind.
